Every summer, the Boston Celtics find themselves being linked with a disgruntled superstar. Last year it was Kevin Durant. This season, it’s Damian Lillard. However, Lillard has made his desire to join the Miami Heat very clear, despite the Portland Trail Blazers holding out for better offers from elsewhere.
The Celtics will always be viewed as a potential trade partner because of their ability to offer Jaylen Brown as part of the deal. Nevertheless, there is no reliable reporting linking Boston with a potential move for Lillard. Yet, even if the Celtics did have interest in the All-Star guard, it would appear Jayson Tatum doesn’t have anything to do with recruiting new players to Boston.
Recently, a video of Tatum emerged on the ‘Ball Don’t Lie Twitter page. In it he was asked if he’d been involved in trying to entice Lillard to the TD Garden.

“Nah, I ain’t got nothing to do with that,” Tatum said when asked if he was trying to broker a move to Boston.
When Brown eventually signs his supermax contract extension, the Celtics will likely find their names removed from these types of trade rumors. Upon inking a supermax contract, a player cannot be traded for 12 months, and then, teams would have to be willing to absorb his large salary into their cap space.
Until then, both Brown and the Celtics will continue to see their names mentioned in rumors, regardless of whether there’s any substance to them or not.
