Jayson Tatum Apologized to Janet Jackson After Celtics Won Game 6 vs. Atlanta

When the Hawks forced a Game 6 against the Celtics in the first round of the NBA playoffs, one of the biggest pieces of news heading into the matchup was that a Janet Jackson concert had to be postponed at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena because it was scheduled for the same night.

As it turned out, Boston beat Atlanta on Thursday night, 128–120, to advance to the second round. In his on-court postgame interview, Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum took a moment to apologize to the pop legend for not finishing the series earlier to allow her concert to remain on schedule.

“I want to send an apology to the legend, Janet Jackson,” Tatum said. “We were supposed to close out in Boston. She had to postpone her show. I hope she sees this. I apologize for that, but we got it done today.”

Jackson will perform in Atlanta on Friday night, as the concert was moved back one day to accommodate the Celtics-Hawks matchup.

The Celtics advance to take on the 76ers in the second round beginning Monday.
