Jayson Molumby hails Ireland's spirit as Scotland are defeated in Dublin

Scotland's Ryan Christie (left) and Republic of Ireland's Jayson Molumby battle for the ball during the UEFA Nations League match at the Aviva Stadium

JAYSON MOLUMBY insists victory over Scotland was a show of spirit from the Republic of Ireland and a sign of the faith in under-fire boss Stephen Kenny.

Ireland were worthy winners as Alan Browne and Troy Parrott struck inside the opening half an hour and Michael Obafemi fired in a stunning strike just after the break.

It was a dismal night in Dublin for Steve Clarke and his side and questions will now be raised over the direction of the national team following another big-game no show on the back of the defeat to Ukraine that ended Scotland's World Cup dreams.

Ireland have given themselves hope of Nations League success, however, as they finally got off and running in the competition and eased the pressure on Kenny following a wretched run and embarrassing loss to Armenia last week.

Molumby said: "It was absolutely massive for us. To a man, I think the fight, passion, desire, commitment, was there from everyone and the fans were unbelievable as well.

"That was an amazing experience for myself. To win 3-0 at home is amazing for us and will give us massive confidence.

"It was incredible. It was probably my second or third appearance at the Aviva, the first packed out, and it was amazing.

"The fans are something different here. They were incredible. When they are behind you like that, it is like having an extra player on the field. It was massive.

"The players are fully committed to the manager, fully committed to the way he wants to play and the style of football.

"The first two games haven't been good enough. Maybe Ukraine was a bit better and we deserved a bit more but Armenia was miles off it from our perspective.

"To put it right tonight and get a 3-0 win was amazing. We are delighted with it."
