Jayde Adams loving 'best ever TV job' after embarking on Welsh journey

Jayde Adams has gushed about landing the "best TV job she's ever done" after learning a new skill in Wales. The Bristolian comedian, who takes pride in her Bedminster roots, thrilled the nation with her ballroom dancing on Strictly Come Dancing last autumn, and has now gone on another learning journey in view of camera crews.

University of Glamorgan alumni Jayde, 38, starred in the latest episode of Welsh broadcaster S4C's "Iaith ar Daith", a series which follows Welsh celebrities, or those with Welsh links, as they try and learn the country's native language. Comedian and actor Geraint Rhys Edwards joined Jayde on a linguistic road trip across the country that lies at the other end of the Severn crossings to Jayde's hometown.

Geraint was by Jayde's side as she attempted to pick up the notoriously difficult to learn language for English speakers, with the Ruby Speaking star facing a number of challenges along the way in the episode that aired on Sunday (June 11). At the beginning of the show, Jayde tries her best to learn some Welsh phrases as she sets out a goal for herself.

"I think something I'd love to get to is speaking to my best mate in Welsh, doing some comedy in Welsh, and I'd love to sing in Welsh," Jayde said. "I truly believe that the reason I am what I am is because I lived in Wales for eight years."

"I thought the best way for me to make the Welsh like me is to learn the town that has the long name," she added, successfully reeling off "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch".

Jayde moved to South Wales aged 18 to study at the University of Glamorgan, and performed experimental theatre and contemporary dance at the famous Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay (S4C)

Jayde continued to the camera: "You haven't got a long enough tape for me to tell you all the things I love about Wales. I love Pembrokeshire, stunning Pembrokeshire.

"Come on, leave some beauty for some other people, lads. There's not a place in England that holds a candle to the beauty of that landscape."

Taking to Twitter after her appearance on the show, Jayde wrote: "Best TV job I’ve ever done. Learning Welsh for #iaithardaith tonight with Geraint Rhys Edwards."

Whilst Jayde is full of love for Wales, the comedian will shine a light on the people of Bristol with her new ITVX show, which will be released on the streaming platform on June 22. Ruby Speaking stars Jayde as the newly-single call centre worker Ruby, who carves her own chaotic path through life, rather than sticking to the script.

Jayde is joined by Joe Sims, who plays Tom, and some budding Bristol talent after the comedian put out a casting call, imploring people from the city to join the cast, with Daniel Hiscox and Kiera Lester selected. You can read our review of the upcoming comedy here.

For all Welsh speakers, learners and curious English speakers, Jayde's episode of Iaith ar Daith is currently available to stream on BBC iPlayer and S4C.
