Aberdeen target Jay Idzes has insisted that he has still to make a decision on his future.
The Go Ahead Eagles defender has been a target for the Dons since the end of last year. The 23-year-old is now a free agent and is considering an offer from Pittodrie and others across Europe. Aberdeen were close to sealing a pre-contract for Idzes in January but the player didn’t want to commit as Jim Goodwin lost his job. He didn’t want to sign until he knew who the new manager was going to be.
Barry Robson has since travelled to Holland to watch Idzes and he also wants to bring him to Pittodrie. The Dons have tabled a lucrative offer and hope it will be enough to land the left-sided central defender. Idzes claimed: “I haven’t signed anywhere yet, so we will see. I will see what suits me best. When I look at my personal journey over the last three years, I have really been able to develop. If I have played my last competitive game then I have had three great years here.”
Aberdeen have a major rebuilding job to do. They have already signed Nicky Devlin to replace Ross McCrorie but are also in the market to bring in two centre halves, with Manchester United’s Will Fish amongst their targets. Aberdeen are also close to a deal to sign Slovenian striker Ester Sokler from NK Radomlje.
Robson’s side are also keen to strike a deal to sign Croatian midfielder Tonio Teklic from NK Varazdin, alongside potential purchases of former loan stars Graeme Shinnie and Leighton Clarkson on a permanent basis.
Shinnie will see his wages in the last year of his contract slashed after Wigan’s relegation to League One. The Latics are also having financial problems and HMRC have requested a winding up order over unpaid bills. Aberdeen hope it will persuade Shinnie to tear up his contract and to sign a long-term deal at Pittodrie.
The 31-year-old is currently on holiday and will look at his future on his return. Aberdeen have also agreed a deal with Liverpool for Clarkson but he also wants to take time to consider his options.
