Jay Gruden Blasts Commanders' Culture After Blowout Loss to Dolphins

The Commanders’ blowout loss against the Dolphins in Week 13 prompted some harsh criticism from former head coach Jay Gruden.

Following the 30-point defeat, Gruden took to X, formerly Twitter, and denounced the current culture in Washington, suggesting that it hadn’t improved since his departure in 2019.

“4-5 years now. Figured culture would of been the difference,” wrote Gruden after the Commanders’ 45–15 loss.

Gruden spent six seasons as Washington’s head coach from 2014-19. He was fired after an 0–5 start to the 2019 season, achieving one playoff appearance during his tenure with the franchise. Gruden had a 35–49–1 record as the head coach in D.C.

Since Ron Rivera took over as head coach in 2020, Washington has been to the playoffs once, losing in the wild-card round during Rivera’s debut season. He owns a 21–35 record across four seasons, with the team sitting at 4–9 in 2023 following Sunday’s loss.

In their last two games, the Commanders have surrendered 90 points. They’ve given up 29 or more points in five of their last six games and nine of 13 contests this season.

Washington is on a four-game losing skid and has lost nine of its last 11 games, prompting Gruden to raise questions about the culture under Rivera’s regime.
