On ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday morning, college basketball analyst Jay Bilas ranked the top teams remaining in the men’s NCAA tournament with the Elite Eight set to begin on Saturday.
On the top of his list? UConn, out of the Big East.
It’s not the first time Bilas has been high on the Huskies this season, as he picked them as his winner of the national title when he filled out his bracket on Selection Sunday.
“We’re talking about best chance to win a national championship, because one of them’s going to the championship game,” Bilas began on Saturday. “I’ve got Texas as the second-best team in this tournament, and then I have Miami because of the shot-making we talked about. Those are elite shot-makers that Miami has. I’ve got Gonzaga because of the fact these guys are gamers, and then I go with Creighton after that.”
Despite this season being the first time ever that a No. 1 team has not made the Elite Eight, Bilas said that fans should not be surprised at the teams that are remaining.
“UConn’s been ranked No. 1 this season,” he said. “Creighton coming out of Maui before they had that illness problem when they left Maui and they lost six games, we were talking about Creighton being a Final Four team. We shouldn’t be shocked that any of these teams are here.”
