Inter Miami has announced the appointment of Javier Mascherano as the club's new coach, replacing Gerardo Martino. Mascherano, a former teammate of Lionel Messi at Barcelona and for the Argentina national team, has signed a three-year contract and will assume the role once his paperwork is finalized.

Mascherano brings a wealth of experience, having previously coached Argentina's under-20 team and Olympic squad. His familiarity with top-level players, including Messi, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Luis Suarez, who are all part of the Inter Miami roster, is seen as a significant advantage for the team.

Expressing his excitement about the new role, Mascherano stated, 'To lead a club like Inter Miami is an honor and a privilege. I am drawn to the organization's ambition and infrastructure, and I look forward to working with the team to achieve new heights.'

Inter Miami had a record-breaking regular season in Major League Soccer, setting league records for points and winning percentage. However, the team fell short in the playoffs, prompting Martino's decision to step down.

David Beckham, co-owner of Inter Miami, praised Mascherano's relentless determination and knowledge, stating, 'We're very excited to welcome him to lead our team.'

Mascherano, who also had a successful playing career with Barcelona and Liverpool, faces a challenging first year as coach. The upcoming season may see Inter Miami play over 50 matches, including MLS games, Leagues Cup, CONCACAF Champions Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

With uncertainty surrounding Messi's future with the club beyond 2025, Mascherano's leadership will be crucial in guiding Inter Miami through a demanding schedule and aiming for continued success.
