India's inconsistent run in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia has led to questions on the role of seniors like Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma, but Jasprit Bumrah has urged for patience with a team that is in transition mode.
India's top order once again failed to deliver on the third day of the rain-hit Brisbane Test at the Gabba, as the hosts crashed to 51 for 4 in reply to Australia's first-innings total of 445.
Still behind by 394 runs and with just six wickets in hand, the visitors have their backs to the wall with the five-match series standing at 1-1, after India won the first Test in Perth and Australia leveling things up in Adelaide with a 10-wicket win.
Among India's inconsistent show, the only man standing tall since the opening day of the series in Perth has been Jasprit Bumrah. In Gabba too, he took six wickets, which is his second five-for of the series, taking his tally to 18 in this Border Gavaskar Trophy so far.
"We as a team are going through a transition as new players are coming in and it's not the easiest place to play cricket over here," the 31-year-old Bumrah said after bad light followed multiple rain delays through Monday to force the umpires to call stumps.
Barring Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, India's pace attack has been inexperienced. None among Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishan, Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishan have previously played a Test on Australian soil.
"It's my job to help others. I have played a bit more than them so I am trying to help them. We are a new team, new players have come into the side and we have to be considerate that they will learn from experience," said Bumrah.
"But this is the journey that every team will go through," he said. "All these experiences will help them and they will see a lot of improvement going forward. This is something all players go through. Nobody's born with all the experience, nobody's born with all the skills.
"You keep learning, you keep finding new ways and I'm sure you will get better," he concluded.
