Jason Sudeikis’ Ted Lasso is taking on coaching a women’s football team in the new season four trailer.

The Apple TV Plus series follows the American football coach as he moves to England to manage a British football “soccer team”, AFC Richmond.

The last season, which was widely believed to be the series’ last, ended with Ted moving back home to the US, however he has now returned in the new trailer.

Released on Tuesday, the one-minute-long trailer kicks off with Ted back in the clubroom and seeing his “Believe” sign that he used to inspire players and the coaching squad has been taped back up on the wall.

He is then welcomed by former player turned assistant coach Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) who tells Ted it is “good to see him” again before they embrace.

A series of clips of the rest of the main cast are shown, including Brendan Hunt as Coach Willis Beard tearing up a dancefloor, and Hannah Waddingham’s Rebecca Welton sitting at her desk, as well as Juno Temple as Keeley Jones and Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins.

The trailer, which is set to Mumford & Sons’ song Run Together, also introduces Tanya Reynolds as one of the coaching staff who is hired to help run the club’s new women’s football team.

The team is then shown posing together for a photo before taking to the pitch, however one of the players leaves Ted and Coach Beard bewildered when pushing back against their catchphrase that “football is life”.

Standing on the pitch with the pair, she tells them: “No, life is so much more than football.”

Ted replies: “It’s not as catchy, but, true.”

The official synopsis for the upcoming season teases: “Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team.

“Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.”

After season three of Ted Lasso concluded in 2023, it was announced in March 2025 that the series would be returning.

However Goldstein, who is also a writer on the show, had previously said the series had been “planned as three”, while Sudeikis told Deadline before the season three premiere that it was “the end of the story we wanted to tell”.

Ted Lasso has received 61 Emmy nominations in total and won 13, with Sudeikis picking up the lead actor in a comedy series gong in 2021 and 2022.

The series was developed by Sudeikis, Hunt, Bill Lawrence, and Joe Kelly, and is based on the pre-existing format and characters from NBC Sports.

Season 4 of Ted Lasso will be streaming from August 5 on Apple TV Plus.
