Fans have responded to the moment Olivia Wilde was reportedly handed custody papers by her ex-husband and father of her children Jason Sudeikis, while on stage at CinemaCon on Tuesday.
The actress, 38, was left stunned as she was on stage to promote Don't Worry Darling- the film which sparkled her romance with Harry Styles- when she reportedly received the legal documents from Jason - best known for starring in Ted Lasso.
Taking to Twitter, the actor has been called "savage" and sparked a debate about whether the moment was purely a coincidence or a plan to intervene in her directorial speech for the movie which stars her singer boyfriend, 28.
A source close to Jason told Variety: "Papers were drawn up to establish jurisdiction relating to the children of Ms. Wilde and Mr. Sudeikis".
They added the actor: "had no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope would have been delivered as this would solely be up to the process service company involved, and he would never condone her being served in such an inappropriate manner".
Discussing the shocking moment on Twitter, one wrote: "Ted Lasso a savage", in reference to Jason's character on the hit Apple TV series.
Another added: "Didn't know Ted Lasso was cold like this," while a third chimed: "Ted Lasso would never serve his ex with custody papers while she was doing a big presentation at work".
A fourth fan wrote: "Is the 'coincidence' the fact that Styles is also in the movie? Is that all? Was he present on stage with her as she was served or in the audience?"
Another typed: "It's just a CRAZY coincidence that it was at this event", while a different fan added: "Poor, poor Olivia Wilde!".
Others leapt to Jason's defence, insisting he wouldn't have been aware about it.
One fan wrote: "I had an ex served with papers before and there is absolutely NO WAY Jason Sudeikis didn't know where and when Olivia Wilde would be served... NO WAY! The when and where is something that is discussed before the papers are delivered".
Another added: "No way that Jason Sudeikis didn’t know how and when Olivia would get served. And how exactly did they get past security to do it anyway. Ah I’m sure she’ll get over it, I would with Harry Styles consoling me".
Jason reportedly hired a process server to hand crucial documents over to Olivia concerning their two young children.
According to reports, Olivia was shocked when she was handed an envelope - titled "personal and confidential" - from a woman at Caesars Palace's in Las Vegas.
Olivia's ex did not know she would be served the papers in such a public and humiliating way, PageSix reported.
"This is for me? Is this a script? Ok got it. Thank you," she reportedly said on stage. "I thought it was part of the presentation or a joke. But then…that was the end of it."
After opening the documents, it's claimed Olivia carried on without blinking and continued to present the trailer for her new film.
It had initially been reported that the documents were an unsolicited script sent by a fan in the hopes of receiving Olivia's attention.
Details of their current custody arrangement remain private, and neither Olivia nor Jason have commented on the contents of the envelope.
Olivia and Jason split in November 2020. The pair share eight-year-old son Otis and five-year-old daughter Daisy together.
At the time, the pair said that their split is amicable and that there has been no animosity between them.
