Jason Manford 'petrified' as he spends night suspended from Welsh cliff

Jason Manford and Freddie Flintoff teamed up for a TV show that took them on a wild camping adventure from the coast of North Wales to the summit of Snowdon - when Jason faced his fears as they spent the night suspended from a cliff.

Freddie & Jason: Two Men in a Tent, a one-off from ITV on Tuesday, November 29, followed the former cricketer and comedian as they enjoyed an unforgettable experience surrounded by stunning Welsh scenery. And viewers soon took to social media to share their love for it.

A keen camper, the show saw Freddie encourage Jason to embrace the great outdoors as the two celebrities enjoyed the simplicity of each other's company and switch off from modern life. The journey saw the stars catch their own lobsters, forage for vegetables, go wild swimming, climb Snowdonia, and in a move that might have been a little too far for Jason - the pair went camping on a cliff ledge suspended 15 metres above the crashing waves.

Freddie explained: "For our first night in Wales, we've headed northwest to Anglesey where I've lined up my own special version of a room with a view."

The pair then discussed what they're scared of, with Freddie explaining he doesn't like the dark and Jason admitting he's "not a fan of heights," without realising where they are setting up camp for the night.

As Jason and Freddie walked a stunning coastal path, Jason asked: "We're running out of land here so where are we staying?" Freddie and Jason then met professional Jeremy who explained they would be cliff camping and showed the boys the setup.

As Jason looked on horrified, Freddie said to the cameras: "Jason and cliff camping, I'm not sure if the two things are going to go together. You've got to sleep all night on a ledge but all that is before you've even got down, he's got to abseil down.

"I do feel a bit guilty, he does not like heights. I just hope tomorrow morning we're going to be speaking."

Jason then added: "Who comes up with ideas like this? I've just said I'm scared of heights. And now I'm presented with a bed on the side of the cliff with no roof. I know I said I wanted to toughen up, but this is too far."

Jason made gagging noises as he abseiled down to his bed for the night. "I was looking in his eyes and all they were saying was 'help', he just looked petrified," Freddie giggled.

"How scared were you coming down there?" Freddie asked later, as Jason replied: "Well it's like anything I suppose, the first bit is scary but once you get into it you think 'oh alright'."

"I must admit, I do get more scared than I let on with things," Freddie candidly responded, before adding: "I've got a way of just doing it."

The 44-year-old went on to say he was scared of failure and being hit by the ball every time he went out to bat during his cricketing career but explained "it's not the done thing to say 'I don't really like it'.

"Because you've got that reputation of being a lad and a man's man do you think there's a bit of extra pressure," Jason asked. "Because I feel like I'm able to sort of go, 'that's really scary'."

"A little bit, but as I've gotten older I've let it go a bit," Freddie replies. After managing a night cliffside, Jason told cameras: "I slept on a cliff, it was one hell of an experience.

"And what was nice was the sort of bit just before bed, we had a nice little chat there. It's unusual you get that time where you find out about somebody's life, who's had a really interesting, hell of a life and a totally different life to me, even though we are from similar places and similar backgrounds."

While the scene showed off the stunning coastal scenery Wales has to offer, the rest of the show also boasted about its beautiful views, with the rich forests, rolling hills and breathtaking sights from the top of Snowdon all on show for viewers to take in.

One viewer posted: "Two men in a tent . Freddie Flintoff and Jason Manford ….. superb in Wales." A second said: "Two Men In A Tent @JasonManford and Freddie Flintoff. Brilliant, really enjoyed it! Please do another trip together. #twomeninatent." Referring to the blanket World Cup coverage, another said: "No it's okay! I've found something to watch. Freddie Flintoff and Jason Manford in a tent. Joyous."

Camping Magazine posted: "Loving Two Men In A Tent, but we reckon @JasonManford and Freddie Flintoff could do with some tent pitching lessons! (smiley face emoji) #twomeninatent"
