Penn State University police are currently investigating an altercation that took place over the weekend involving a retired Philadelphia Eagles center and a fan. The incident occurred before the game between the Nittany Lions and Ohio State.
The police department's incident log indicates that an officer observed a visitor damaging personal property on Saturday. PSU public information officer Jacqueline Sheader confirmed that the incident involved the former NFL player and stated that the investigation is ongoing. The potential offenses listed in the report include criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
Video footage circulating on social media captured the retired player, Jason Kelce, walking through a crowd near Beaver Stadium. Fans were requesting photos and fist bumps when one fan began heckling Kelce and reportedly shouted an anti-gay slur about his brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who is dating pop star Taylor Swift.
In response to the slur, Kelce grabbed the fan's phone and threw it to the ground before confronting the individual, using a similar anti-gay slur during the exchange. Another fan intervened, preventing the situation from escalating further.
Kelce publicly apologized during ESPN's pregame show on Monday night, acknowledging his actions. He expressed regret for responding with hostility, stating that he 'fell short' and 'fell down to a level that [he] shouldn't have.'
The investigation into the altercation is ongoing, and further updates may be provided as the situation develops.
