Jason Donovan and Peter Andre return to roles in Grease in the West End

Jason Donovan and Peter Andre are returning to their roles in the musical GREASE at the Dominion Theatre, following their celebrated performances last year.

Donovan, 54, is playing Teen Angel between August 14 to October 28, while Andre, 50, stars as Vince Fontaine from August 29 to October 19. Louise Redknapp has also been announced to play Teen Angel from June 2 to July 29.

Grease is directed by Nikolai Foster and choreographed by Dame Arlene Phillips.

The hugely popular West End show had the most successful summer run at the Dominion Theatre last year, overtaking We Will Rock You, as over 500,000 people attended the musical.

Donovan previously starred as Teen Angel for six weeks alongside fellow Aussie Andre in Grease last summer.

Speaking about working with Donovan, Andre told What’s on Stage: “I’m so excited Jason Donovan is coming on.

“I told him, ‘It humbles me I get to share a stage with you because when I was a kid, you were such a big star. If someone said to me, in 30 years’ time you’re going to be on stage together, I would have gone, ‘What?’

“He’s a brilliant guy, he’s such a good actor. So, for me, this is wonderful.”

Grease debuted in Chicago in 1971 and made its West End debut in London in 1973, starring Richard Gere as Danny Zuko. The musical played at the Dominion Theatre 20 years later and reopened at the Piccadilly in 2007.

This year’s production is produced by Colin Ingram and is dedicated to the memory of Olivia Newton-John, who portrayed Sandy in the 1978 film and passed away last year.

Newton-John famously starred opposite John Travolta in the movie musical, which included the beloved music features Summer Nights, You’re the One That I Want and Hopelessly Devoted to You, among other favourites.

The classic film is the fourth highest-grossing live-action musical of all time and is still cherished by fans, along with the stage production, all these decades later.
