Jason Arday cancels book tour after plagiarism controversy

  • Professor Jason Arday has cancelled promotional events for his forthcoming memoir following his resignation from Cambridge University.
  • His resignation came after the prestigious institution launched a probe into allegations of plagiarism concerning his PhD thesis and other academic work.
  • Mr Arday, who became Cambridge's youngest Black professor in 2023, said that his decision to step away was to “bring this chapter to an end”, rather than an acceptance of the narratives against him.
  • The cancelled events include a bookshop appearance in Edinburgh and a speech at the Royal Geographical Society.
  • Cambridge University said that it would continue to investigate the circumstances of Mr Arday's appointment and tenure, with findings informing a review of senior academic role appointments.
