Jarrod Bowen's penalty admission amid verdict on Said Benrahma after West Ham win vs Bournemouth

Jarrod Bowen applauded teammate Said Benrahma as the "bright spark" in West Ham United's win against Bournemouth.

The Algerian secured all three points for the Hammers on Monday night after scoring from the penalty spot in stoppage-time to make it 2-0 following Jordan Zemura's handball inside the box.

Kurt Zouma opened the scoring on the night with a first-half header as West Ham climbed into the top-half of the table for the first time this season. Their win against the Cherries was also their fifth straight home win, a record for the Irons since moving to the London Stadium.

David Moyes revealed post-match that Benrahma was not initially set to take the penalty. Bowen, who was substituted less than five minutes before it was given, jokingly admitted to Sky Sports he may not have taken it himself after his miss in the 1-0 loss at Liverpool.

"I think I'm off them now after my miss last week," said Bowen. "But no, Said buried it and I thought he was brilliant. That's the quality Said has got. I see it every day in training, the one v one ability, creating things for others, getting shots away. You see it tonight he was a real bright spark and to get his goal as well I am so happy for him."

West Ham climbed from 17th to 10th after Monday night’s result. After a dismal start of just four points collected from their opening seven Premier League games, the Irons have managed to turn things around with three wins and a draw from their last five matches.

Although the win against Bournemouth was not the most emphatic of performances from David Moyes’ side, momentum is clearly in their favour and Bowen highlighted the importance of keeping their good form going before the World Cup break in November.

He said: "Massively important [win]. The position we found ourselves in after the weekend's results, it's always that way sometimes when you play on a Monday and you're waiting for the game to come, especially when teams pick up points around you.

"We knew the importance of tonight [against Bournemouth] and where it could shoot us up into the league and it looks a lot better where we are now than where we were at the start of the day. There's a lot of games coming up quite quickly but the main thing is to keep winning and keep that momentum high and keep the confidence high."
