Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta set for significant spells out as West Ham dealt major double injury blow

West Ham have been dealt a major blow with Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta set for significant spells on the sidelines.

The Hammers are sixth in the Premier League and have taken seven points from a tough run of league games against Arsenal, Manchester United and Brighton thanks to a front three of Bowen, Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus.

But Kudus is now away on international duty with Ghana, while Paqueta is set for a month out of action and will see a specialist for further assess a calf injury.

He limped off after just 14 minutes of action during Sunday’s FA Cup third round draw at home to Bristol City.

Bowen, meanwhile, saw out the game but had to be helped off the pitch with a left ankle injury. The club will now conduct further tests to ascertain the severity of his injury once the swelling to his ankle has abated.

It leaves David Moyes with a selection crisis in attacking areas of the pitch, with Michail Antonio still out with a medium-term knee injury.

Centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos also suffered a knock against Bristol City, and Moyes could be without as many as seven players when his side travel to Bristol City for the replay in their next match on January 16.

The West Ham manager said of the situation: “It’s that time of the year — you can get injuries. We’ve seen it over the years.

“We’ve had a really good clean bill of health for the most part of the season.”
