A powerful earthquake has hit Japan triggering a tsunami warning.
The 7.3-magnitude quake struck Fukushima, with tremors felt 90km away in Tokyo.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said the quake struck 60km below the sea.
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said the Government is working to assess the extent of any damage after the tremor.
There are no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
Around 2 million homes are without power, according to Tokyo Electric Power.
One witness posted on The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre website: "Two one after another. Second was the strongest. Not too bad but in this area of Northern Tokyo it seemed to go on for a couple minutes."
Another wrote: "Felt very strongly in Kashima. Apartment was strongly swaying the entire time."
The same region was hit by a major quake followed by a tsunami in 2011 that triggered the Fukushima nuclear disaster.
Authorities warned residents in Fukushima, Miyagi and Yamagata prefectures to expect after shocks.
