January recruitment has provided key impact for 'double' chasing Larne

As Larne close in on what would be a historic league and cup double boss Tiernan Lynch has hailed the impact made by his January arrivals.

Andy Ryan, Joe Thomson and Michael Glynn have all made a big impact for the Inverman since joining the club in January.

That has helped Larne open up a seven-point lead at the top of the Irish Premiership as well as reaching the last-four of the Irish Cup.

Lynch is delighted the new additions have added to the quality already at the club.

"Andy Ryan is just good at what he does," he said.

"He has a wee bit of everything as a footballer. He has a nose for a goal, he can play, he brings people into the game, he's prepared to run in behind, he drops the feet, he's just a class act.

"He's been sensational for us since he's come in.

"I also think Joe in the middle of the park has given us real energy and legs. He has a real bite about him, he's a winner, he doesn't accept mediocrity.

"Michael is another one, he's only 20-years-old and he's just going to get better and better."

Ryan has grabbed the headlines with his goal scoring exploits.

Friday night's winner against Ballymena United was his sixth since he arrived from Scotland, and Lynch feels he is the perfect foil for his other attackers.

"Paul (O'Neill) and Lee (Bonis) are very similar as footballers - big, strong, physical, athletic," he said.

"We went through a little stage where we weren't scoring goals.

"Both have been around for a long time and people expect them to know the game and for them to do all the things we want, but they're only 23.

"Andy has brought one of two things - he's brought a level of expertise to us, and he has given us a different dimension which has also helped the other two strikers."
