Janey Godley shares health update on impact of chemotherapy on mental health

Janey Godley has issued an update to fans on the status of her chemotherapy treatment, and its impact on her mental health.

The comedian recently began the second round of treatment for her ovarian cancer, which she was diagnosed with last year.

She has since routinely kept her followers on social media up to date with her journey.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Godley spoke about the impact of the treatment on her mental health.

She wrote: "Of all the side effects of chemo nobody really mentioned my mental health and I will do my best to speak about this when I come through this - one day".

Before long, the replies were flooded with fans of the comedian offering their support.

One wrote: "Yep I know it well, it will pass Janey, chemo knocks the s**t out of you physically and mentally, you’ll be right soon".

A second echoed: "You have come so far. You are an inspiration to lots of people. It’s hard to see this when you feel this low. Tomorrow is another day. Your family love you".

"I am going through cancer treatment also, mental health is not really mentioned," a third agreed.

A fourth shared: "Janet, you are loved and valued. Feelings like what you are going through are 100% understandable and need to be addressed. Don’t feel as though you have to share them online, but make sure you make time enough for them and you. You take care of yourself, OK?"

Another stated: "As all too often, “where does it hurt?” is a question only about bodies. I feel sorry for our emotional lives, which almost always come last behind our other bits and bobs. Sending hugs today to those parts of you no MRI could ever find. Which matter most of all."

Godley also tweeted: "Slept on and off for over 28 hours, mental health not great with chemotherapy, awake at 7.30am facing how to hide away for another 24 hours between drinking enough to keep me hydrated & eating enough to stop my stomach hurting - one day at a time in this world today".

In another tweet, the comedian discussed her initial symptoms — which included bloating, lack of appetite, and exhaustion — in order to inform others as part of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
