Scots comedian Janey Godley has reflected on her cancer journey and revealed that she is finally starting to feel like herself again.
Janey was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last year and has been battling the disease and updating her fans throughout as she went through operations and courses of treatment. Following gruelling chemotherapy sessions, last month the funny woman announced that her latest scan came back clear.
At the time, a tearful Janey said: “I have just had a phone call from the cancer specialist and the scan has came back clear. There is no evidence of the disease, so after the hysterectomy and six rounds of chemo and a blood transfusion it seems like the NHS has definitely saved my life.
“I want to thank everyone at the Beatson Cancer Care and every one at the NHS who looked after me. I also want to thank my wee pal Shirley who looked after me when I came out after the hysterectomy.” Janey faces having to take pills for the rest of her life to stop the cancer returning but couldn’t contain her joy.
And now she has taken to Twitter to look back on her journey, with a series of selfies taken throughout. Janey went on to say that she is finally starting to feel herself again after getting the all clear.
She wrote: "I am slowly getting back to feeling myself - these are some images over the last few months and one today." Prior to her treatment, Janey decided to shave her hair off herself before she lost it to chemo and the photographs also highlight that journey as her hair is now growing back.
Fans were quick to send their love and support in the comments. One said: "You're so brave Janey, it might of been a very tough gig but you turned it around and in the end the crowd are on their feet! I'm double proud of ya!"
While one said: "Seeing your chemo journey on here has helped me...I'm at the early days stage ,only did cycle two on Tuesday. So glad you are feeling brighter x." Another added: "Lovely to see you looking so well after all you've been through.x"
And one commented: "It’s so lovely to see the worry leaving your face. All the best."
Back in December, Janey found out that she had cancer after experiencing some symptoms of bloating and frequent urination. And in January, she underwent a hysterectomy but even after the surgery she was told she would need to undergo further treatment as her cancer had progressed to stage 3b.
This means there are cancer growths 2cm or smaller in size on the lining of the abdomen and there may also be cancer in the lymph nodes. Janey underwent six rounds chemotherapy and documented her journey on social media.
And whilst going through treatment, Janey also teamed up with the Beatson cancer charity to help raise £42,000.
The comedian had planned to attend charity stand up shows back in March at the Kings Theatre but was unable to as a result of her declining health.
Her daughter Ashley stepped in her mother's place and the tickets alone raised £39,037.58 with a collection raising an extra £2693.95 and merchandise share raising £1211.85.
Janey told her followers: "You all raised £42 GRAND for @Beatson_Charity I want to thank everyone who performed, attended, bought my Beatson merch from my site & filled @Beatson_Charity buckets at The Kings Theatre shows back in March -We raised £42,943.38.
