Janey Godley 'proud of her lassie' as daughter lands exciting new BBC TV role

Scottish comic Janey Godley has told how proud she is of her daughter Ashley Storrie after she secured an exciting new gig on TV to air on BBC.

Ashley first announced the news on Twitter that she would star in Dinosaur, which tells the story of an autistic woman navigating life.

The female-led comedy from “Fleabag” producer Two Brothers is being created in partnership with US streaming service Hulu after the series was originally commissioned in 2021 by BBC Three.

It tells the tale of Nina, played by comedian and radio producer Ashley Storrie, an autistic woman in her thirties who adores her life living with her sister and best friend Evie.

But things take a turn when Evie rushes into a whirlwind engagement after only six weeks leading Nina into a surprising journey of self-discovery , reports Variety.

Ashley wrote on social media: "I’m so excited! This summer I’ll be filming a TV series called Dinosaur, with Two Brothers Pictures (Fleabag, The Tourist) for Hulu in the US, BBC Three, BBC iPlayer and BBC Scotland. It’s created by Matilda Curtis and myself, and based off the original idea by Matilda."

And it wasn't long before her mum Janey echoed the exciting news on Twitter, penning: "I’m So excited. So proud of my lassie," as she shared the news with her online followers.

One supportive fan responded: "What I love about you and your mam is that you both always go towards the light, you keep shining and laughing and trying new things, and you like to share about that. Thank you, really @JaneyGodley."

Someone else quipped: "Well done Ashley. Looking forward to viewing," whilst a third added: "This is such big news! Congratulations! I can not wait to watch this."

"Ashley, oh my goodness woman, I’m so very happy and excited for you, from a Glaswegian/Vancouverite fan," another penned.

The show is created by Matilda Curtis and Ashley Storrie, and based on an original idea by Matilda, who is working alongside neurodiverse writers including Ashley.

Two Brothers Pictures’ Harry Williams and Jack Williams said in a statement: “We are so excited to be bringing this wonderful series to life with the BBC and Hulu. It is a joyful and hilarious comedy full of heart with a fresh perspective.

"Matilda and Ashley tell a heartfelt love story between two sisters that holds a mirror up to the inconsistencies of the neurotypical world. We can’t wait for Nina’s story to develop on screen.”

Louise Thornton, head of commissioning for BBC Scotland, says that the broadcaster has been supporting Ashley “on her broadcasting journey for a number of years now with a variety of projects.”

She said: "We’re delighted to see her taking a leading role in both a performance and writing capacity alongside Matilda.

“This series is another example of BBC Scotland’s commitment to developing Scottish talent and bringing it to mainstream audiences both across the U.K. and internationally. It’s an exciting project and we can’t wait to see it hit the screens.”
