Legendary actress Jane Fonda has offered some expert advice for anyone going through the end of a relationship.
The 85-year-old, who admits she still uses her world-famous exercise video, has had her fair share of lovers and husbands although she says she did stop dating when she turned 80.
The star and activist recently revealed she was in remission for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma after undergoing gruelling treatment that left her struggling to keep up with her normal routine.
Speaking about her upcoming film 80 for Brady, which stars Fonda, Oscar-winning actress Sally Fields, 76, West Side Story sensation Rita Moreno, 91, and her Grace and Frankie co-star, Lily Tomlin, 83, she shared a method to help get over heartbreak.
“For anyone going through a painful break-up, let me give you a piece of advice my therapist gave me,” she said in an interview with the Mail on Sunday’s You magazine.
“Put a rubber band around your wrist, and every time you feel like sticking a knife into the f***er, snap it hard.
“It snaps you out of it – it works.”
Fonda, who has been married three times, previously reflected that she sees this as an accomplishment because she never matched her dad’s record of five divorces.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she said: “My dad was married five times, so I stopped at three, realising that I just wasn’t dealt a hand that made me good at relationships.”
The Barbarella actress’s first husband was director Roger Vadim and the couple had daughter Vanessa Vadim, 54, before splitting after eight years together in 1973.
Marriage to activist Tom Hayden followed along with their son, Troy Garity, 49, before divorcing in 1990. The couple also adopted Mary Luana Williams, 55.
Fonda admitted she believed that she would be with her third husband, CNN founder Ted Turner, forever.
The couple split in 2001 and although she dated music producer Richard Perry for eight years, they never wed before splitting up in 2017.
