KOLKATA: Jamshedpur FC continued to rebuild their team ahead of the new edition of Indian Super League as they completed the signing of attacking midfielder Emil Benny from NorthEast United FC on Friday.
Benny, who hails from Wayanad and was scouted by Kerala Blasters, has been signed on a two-year deal by Jamshedpur with an option to extend by another year.
He made a huge impression in just one season for the Highlanders where the 22-year-old featured 16 times last season and had three assists. Earlier, he played for Gokulam Kerala where he won I-League trophy twice and made a name for himself.
At JFC, he will add more attacking flair to a squad that already boasts of some impressive names like Alen Stevanovic, Jeremy Manzorro, Rei Tachikawa, Imran Khan and Petar Sliskovic.
Jamshedpur go down to Bengaluru in pre-season tie: Jamshedpur put on a valiant display but came up short as Bengaluru FC earned a 3-2 win against the Men of Steel in a pre-season match at Deccan Arena in Hyderabad on Friday.
It began quite well for the Men of Steel as defender Pratik Chaudhari put them ahead when he headed in a corner. The joy was momentary though as Bengaluru found an equaliser via Namgyal Bhutia.
It began to go downhill after that as Jamshedpur scored an own goal to give Bengaluru the lead. It soon turned into 3-1 as Robin Yadav converted for BFC.
Towards the end of the first half, the Men of Steel were awarded a penalty after Mohammed Sanan was brought down in the box by the Bengaluru defence. The resulting penalty was taken and scored confidently by Ritwik Das.
This was Jamshedpur’s second pre-season game in Hyderabad and third overall this campaign and despite the loss there were many positives for Jamshedpur FC to take.
