Jamshedpur FC rope in Croatian striker Petar Sliskovic from Chennaiyin FC

KOLKATA: Croatian striker Petar Sliskovic has joined Jamshedpur FC on a one-year deal from Chennaiyin FC where he scored 8 goals and bagged 4 assists in just 17 appearances.

Having played in various clubs in Germany and Switzerland, including five years at FSV Mainz between 2010 and 2015 under Thomas Tuchel, the striker brings a lot of experience to the team which is undergoing a complete overhaul under their new coach Scot Cooper.

“Petar has already got league experience and that’s always very encouraging because it can be very difficult for strikers to settle into a new league,” said Cooper in a statement.

“He has done very well last season and got a good tally of goals to his name and is an accomplished striker with experience from Croatia and Germany and I think he will fit into our model of play really well. If he is given chances, he will score goals.”

Barring his experience at the club level, the 6 foot 4 inch striker has also played six times for his country at the youth level, and featured alongside popular names such as Ivan Perisic, Dejan Lovren, Mateo Kovacic and Ivan Rakitic.

Meanwhile, Sliskovic sounded quite excited about his prospect of playing for the Men of Steel, which had a forgettable season last time around.

“Having played against them last season I know what a good team this is. I’m excited to work with the head coach and the staff and help the team once again achieve major glory. The fans in Jamshedpur are known to be some of the loudest and most passionate and I cannot wait to finally play in front of them at the Furnace,” said the striker.

Jitu among India U23 probable list: Jitendra Singh, better known as Jitu, has been selected for the India U23 training camp to be held at Bhubaneshwar, Odisha, from August 12 to September 3 as part of the preparations for AFC U-23 Asian Cup 2024 qualifiers. Meanwhile, the team will travel to PR China on September 4 and begin their campaign on September 6 against Maldives before taking on hosts China on September 9 and then face off against the UAE on September 12.
