Jamie Redknapp believes Newcastle United are now the favourites to win the Carabao Cup due to the 'good feeling' around the club. The Magpies will now face Southampton in a two-legged semi-final after dispatching Leicester City at St James' Park on Tuesday night.
Goals from Dan Burn and Joelinton were enough to seal a throroughly deserved 2-0 victory for the hosts who were dominant throughout. Manchester United will square off against Nottingham Forest in the other semi-final tie, having beaten Charlton Athletic and Wolves respectively.
Newcastle's prospects have seemingly been boosted by Southampton's shock victory to knock Manchester City out. Pep Guardiola's side have won four of the last five competitions, but a rotated side from the Premier League champions suffered a 2-0 loss at St Mary's on Wednesday night.

Manchester United are now listed as the favourites by the bookmakers, with Newcastle considered as the second most likely team to lift the trophy. The Magpies have not won a major domestic competition since 1955, but Eddie Howe's first full season in charge has led the team to within touching distance of a Wembley final.
Redknapp was joined in the Sky Sports studio for coverage of Southampton's surprise victory by former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha and ex-England international Jill Scott. The trio were asked by presenter Mark Chapman to name their winner of this year's Carabao Cup following the semi-final draw.
Redknapp replied: "You know what? Newcastle right now...there's such a good feeling up there. It really is."
This declaration drew a brilliant response from Scott, who added: "That's why as a Sunderland fan I didn't want to say it! Newcastle are performing very well."
Onuoha then named Manchester United as the bookmakers' favourite to avoid making his own prediction. The dates for Newcastle's semi-final ties are yet to be confirmed, but will be held the week beginning January 23 and January 30.
