Jamie Redknapp raises new Liverpool transfer point after Carabao Cup final win

Jamie Redknapp believes that Liverpool's cup final hero Caoimhin Kelleher is too good not to secure himself regular first team football, even if it means leaving Anfield.

The Cork-born stopper was given the nod by Jurgen Klopp ahead of first-choice glovesman Alisson Becker for Sunday's Wembley showpiece.

He made several crucial saves in the match but also scored Liverpool's 11th penalty in a remarkable 11-10 shoot-out victory against European Champions Chelsea.

The outcome justified the bold decision by Klopp to pick his reserve goalkeeper but former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp believes that he cannot continue in that role for much longer.

Redknapp told Sky Sports Football: “He’s so calm on the ball. He has good distribution. He is a brilliant goalkeeper.

“The tough one for him in a few weeks time is that where is he going to play? He’s too good to be a number two.

“Jurgen Klopp deserves a lot of credit. He trusted him. And he got his rewards.”

Redknapp's claims come after former Liverpool goalkeeper David James said that Kelleher had a decision to make about his future, suggesting that with Alisson signing a new five-year contract, he is probably best looking elsewhere for a first-choice berth.

Kelleher may be hoping for involvement against Norwich City on Wednesday evening in the fifth round of the FA Cup, having played in the previous two rounds.

Liverpool have a busy run of fixtures in March, with six matches in 19 days before the international break.
