Jamie Redknapp doubles down on praise for Arsenal star after impressive England performance

Arsenal defender Ben White started for England yesterday (Saturday) as Gareth Southgate's men defeated Switzerland 2-1 in an international friendly at Wembley Stadium.

The visitors took the lead courtesy of Breel Embolo in the 22nd minute with a well-timed header. England responded just before halftime, with Luke Shaw firing a shot past goalkeeper Jonas Omlin.

It looked increasingly likely that the game was heading for a draw, with little to separate the two teams. But in the 78th minute, England were handed a penalty, to which Harry Kane converted in emphatic fashion.

From White's perspective, the £50 million summer signing was partly to blame for Switzerland's goal as he got caught underneath the ball, with Embolo capitalising on the opportunity that came his way.

But outside of the mistake, the former Brighton and Hove Albion centre back was an impressive figure, delivering some excellent forward passes to Kane in particular along with winning plenty of defensive duels in advanced areas.

Speaking before England's victory, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp was quick to praise White on his performance and spoke about how he has been 'fantastic' for Arsenal.

"Ben’s form for Arsenal has been fantastic. He’s really formed a good partnership at the back, you know, probably the best they’ve had for a long time at Arsenal. I think he needs to play alongside someone that’s dominant," Redknapp said of White on Sky Sports.

This isn't the first time Redknapp has praised White. Before the start of the season, the former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder backed the 24-year-old to 'go right to the top' following a successful season for Graham Potter's Brighton.

White could feature yet again for England on Tuesday against the Ivory Coast before Premier League action resumes, with Arsenal taking on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
