Jamie Carragher has hinted that he is expecting Erling Haaland to topple Thierry Henry as one of the Premier League ’s best ever players following his electric start to life at Manchester City.
The Norwegian has enjoyed a seamless adaptation to the top-flight of English football since his move from Borussia Dortmund. Haaland has scored nine goals in his opening five appearances in the Premier League - a run that includes back-to-back hat-tricks against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.
That form inevitably sees him lead the early goalscoring standings and despite the 22-year-old being only a matter of weeks into his Premier League career, Carragher is already predicting Haaland to forge a reputation as one of the all-time greats.
Reviewing Man City’s summer business for Sky Sports, the former Liverpool defender said: “I’d probably say Man City have had a really good window with the players they brought in. They lost a lot of attacking players but you look at Haaland and Alvarez, who’s starting already to look real quality.
“Haaland is the one that jumps out at you, he just looks absolutely amazing. I’m doing the game on Saturday at Villa Park, Aston Villa vs Man City. I’m excited to watch any game but to watch him in the flesh and commentate on him for the first time and really get a good look at him off the ball as well. I’m really excited to watch him.
“We know we’ve got a great player in the league but I think we’ve got something really, really special. When he’s finished his time at Man City or in the Premier League, we’ll be putting him alongside Thierry Henry.

“I think this lad could end up being the best player we’ve seen in the Premier League, I really do believe that. I think he’s that special. He’s made a brilliant start and I can’t say long may that continue because that would be a lie but I'm really excited to see him at the weekend.”
During his time in the Premier League, Henry scored 174 goals across two spells with Arsenal. Haaland certainly has some way to go to match that record but he will be confident of extending his recent prolific run against Aston Villa this weekend.
Steven Gerrard ’s men have endured a poor start to the campaign with four defeats out of their opening five matches, whilst defensively they have been extremely shaky having shipped nine goals in that time.
Pep Guardiola has certainly been left thrilled with his new striker’s form this season but has backed the Norwegian to improve even further going forwards.
He said: "We are really pleased about him - he's a lovely guy and you see his passion for the job. But it's the same with the other new guys. This is what I'm looking for.”
"What will happen in the future, I don't know. I have the feeling he can do better, but it's a question of time."
