Jamie Carragher's Harry Kane transfer hunch amid Man City and Erling Haaland rumours

Harry Kane to Manchester City was one of the more protracted sagas of last summer's transfer window. The Englishman publicly confirmed his desire to leave Spurs, but the Cityzens were unable, or unwilling, to meet Daniel Levy's asking price - and Kane is now back to his prolific best after scooping the March player of the month award.

On the most recent episode of The Overlap Live Fan Debate, Jamie Carragher was questioned as to whether or not the Kane and Son duopoly will last further than this season if Spurs fail to qualify for the Champions League. After quickly boiling down to whether or not the Spurs and England striker will still be playing his football at Spurs next season, the former Liverpool central defender claimed “I can’t see Harry Kane leaving Tottenham now, I think he would like to leave in the summer if he gets the opportunity but I think that ship has sailed.”

“You don’t want that career of just being known as winning the golden boot, you want to win big trophies, that is more important I think than individual honours.”

Harry Kane’s goal scoring record for Tottenham is one of the best in the history of the club. According to Transfermarkt, Kane has a combined 297 G/A’s in 377 games, 243 of which are goals, for the Lilywhites placing him second in their all-time goalscoring charts behind Jimmy Greaves.

With countless reports linking Kane with a move away from Spurs to Manchester City circulating last summer, it seemed all but confirmed that the England captain would be on his way out of Tottenham before being priced out of a move by Daniel Levy. Jamie Carragher is one of many who believe that the Harry Kane to Manchester City ship has firmly sailed, as rumours begin to heat up linking the Cityzens with a move for Erling Haaland.

There would still be plenty of clubs wanting to sign Harry Kane given his unique skill set and goal scoring record. However, whether he is able to secure a move that would open the door to winning major trophies remains to be seen.

If Harry Kane does leave, then the Kane and Son partnership will come to and end. Given that this is the most prolific Premier League partnership ever, statistically, this would be a catastrophic loss for a Spurs side looking for Champions league football.

Expect speculation around Harry Kane’s future to ramp up as the Premier League enters the final stages of the season. Whether he will be at Spurs for the foreseeable future remains to be seen, but securing a return to Champions League football certainly won't hurt the chances of the talisman staying in N17.
