Jamie Carragher believes a tendency to score late goals is viewed differently between Arsenal and Manchester City.
Reiss Nelson’s winner in the dying embers of Saturday’s win over Bournemouth sparked wild celebrations at the Emirates Stadium as Mikel Areta’s side completed a stunning second-half comeback.
The Gunners have profited from a number of match-winning goals towards the end of games this season, with Jorginho forcing Emi Martinez to put through his own net during a dramatic victory at Villa Park last month.
Eddie Nketiah also hit a stoppage-time winner to beat Manchester United in January as Arsenal look to end their 19-year long wait for a Premier League title.
Still, Sky Sports pundit Carragher believes the Gunners are treated differently to champions City.
In his view, City scoring a late goal would simply be treated as a title-winning team possessing the necessary mentality to get over the line, whereas with Arsenal it is seen as a desperate scramble to steal points.
“When Man City score in the last minute we say "great mentality", but because it’s Arsenal we’re saying "oh, they’re choking, they’ve got to score in the last minute because they’re not playing well enough,” Carragher told Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
“But that narrative will change if they win the title. We’ll be saying something different next season.”
