Jamie Carragher expects Chelsea to look 'different' after the summer transfer window closes and has predicted that Todd Boehly could make a couple of new additions to boost their Premier League top four chances.
The Blues kicked off their 2022/23 campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Goodison Park over Everton. A contest which saw three new recruits in the form of Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella shine in different ways. Two of the other five signings that didn't feature on the weekend are more signings for the future. As well as the outgoing side of things which is expected to be very busy in the build-up to deadline day, football.london understands that Boehly will continue to work on incomings with Wesley Fofana, Frenkie de Jong and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang still very hot on the agenda.
football.london understands that a world-record third bid for a defender will go in this week for Leicester's number 3 whilst Boehly will make his move for the other two aforementioned targets if De Jong gives the 'green light' on his end and Barcelona allow both Depay and Aubameyang to leave in the same summer. They are three signings that are expected to go straight into the first team. No wonder then Carragher, unlike punditry friend Gary Neville, will not play down Chelsea's chances in the top four race. In fact, he reckons they could look so 'different', that they and Tottenham have the best chances of catching both Man City and Liverpool this season.

"Yes and a lot of people are still a little down on Chelsea," he told Sky Sports when asked about the chances of anyone being able to catch the top two of last season.
"But I still think there is two or three players that come into Stamford Bridge before the window closes, so I think they could look a completely different proposition at the end of August as well. But Spurs with Conte, the results they got against Liverpool and Manchester City last season, we know he is a coach who can rightly go up against Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola and not feel inferior in any way because of the success he's had here and abroad.
"So, yeh I think they will join Chelsea in the two teams trying to close in on the top two."
