Jamie Carragher makes 'miraculous' Arsenal call ahead of Man City title clash

Jamie Carragher has insisted Arsenal will need a 'miraculous' performance against Manchester City in order to keep their Premier League title hopes alive.

The Gunners were held to a 3-3 draw by Southampton at the Emirates on Friday evening - and were trailing 3-1 with only 5 minutes remaining in North London.

Mikel Arteta's side currently lead the way by five points but City do have two games in hand as well as the Gunners to come at the Etihad next week.

PLAYER RATINGS: Diogo Jota and Alisson good against Nottingham Forest

ANALYSIS: Liverpool finally have their 'game-breaker' back in huge boost for Klopp

Given City's aspirations to retain the Premier League title, it's been a slowing end to the campaign for Arsenal and Carragher is of the opinion that the Gunners mustn't give up on their hopes just yet.

''Whether the point makes that much difference to Arsenal, I'm not quite sure,'' he began on Sky Sports yesterday evening. ''They've probably got to go to Man City and get three points if they want to go on and win the league. It is still in Arsenal's hands, and we keep saying it, and it just shows you how far ahead they were.'

''They've dropped six points in the last three games, and it is still in their hands. They did have a really sizeable lead, but they are going to have to do something miraculous now between now and the end of the season.

''But we've seen them go on runs before, certainly on the back of losing to Man City at Emirates Stadium. That was a big disappointment, but they went on to win the next seven games. They've got six games to go now, and they will have to go and do something special between now and the end of the season to win it.''

Liverpool's win over Nottingham Forest today now sees them in seventh place, three points behind Tottenham Hotspur in fifth - with a six-point gap to Newcastle United who are fourth, having played a game less than the Reds.

Newcastle host Spurs in a 2pm kick-off on Sunday.
