Jamie Carragher makes Liverpool prediction in Man City and Arsenal title race

Jamie Carragher has claimed Liverpool's fixtures against Manchester City and Arsenal in the next week will play a crucial part in the Premier League title race.

Pep Guardiola's men welcome the Reds to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon looking to temporarily close the gap between themselves and the Gunners. Mikel Arteta's side are currently eight points clear at the top of the table after winning 22 of their 28 games this season.

Next week, the north Londoners face Liverpool in their search for a first win at Anfield since 2012. Liverpool have been involved in some of the most nail-biting title races in recent seasons but could now play a different role in determining the winners.

Writing in his latest column for The Telegraph, former Reds centre-back Carragher has suggestd Arsenal and City's fixtures with Liverpool could be the most difficult test. "For all Liverpool's difficulties this season, aside from when City and Arsenal play each other, they are the greatest challenge remaining in the league," he said.

"It was City who ended Liverpool's quadruple hopes a year ago. Jurgen Klopp will be desperate to put a dent in Guardiola's treble push this time.

"This will not be how Klopp wanted or planned it, but the logic over the next two weeks is not dissimilar as in previous years for those wanting to celebrate in May.

"Whichever side beats Liverpool will feel like they are a step closer to winning the league. If City succeed and Arsenal do not, the treble talk will get louder."
