Jamie Carragher makes Chelsea vs Borussia Dortmund prediction amid Graham Potter sacking decision

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has predicted that Chelsea will overcome Borussia Dortmund in their Champions League clash on Tuesday night. The two sides go into the second leg after a 1-0 victory for the Bundesliga side at the Signal Iduna Park last month.

Karim Adeyemi's solo effort was the only difference between the two sides in the reverse fixture, but the Blues are in a position to overturn the deficit and book their place in the final eight of the competition. For Graham Potter, it could be a crucial game in his tenure, with reports that defeat could impact his future.

"The position we’re in, you should always welcome pressure because it means you’re in a fantastic situation which is to compete for the last eight of the Champions League," Potter said ahead of the clash. "It’s a wonderful competition and it’ll be a special night. It was a special occasion in Dortmund and I’m sure it will be the same at Stamford Bridge tomorrow. We’re looking forward to the game and competing to go through because it’s a fantastic competition and we want to progress."

The Blues will have to do something they haven't managed since the turn of the year and score more than one goal in a game to ensure they earn passage to the next round. While that may be a huge ask for a side that have struggled in front of goal, Carragher believes they will achieve just that.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: "It’s a huge game. There was a lot of talk before the Leeds game about the pressure on Graham Potter and him potentially losing his job. I think from Graham Potter’s point of view, winning that game [against Leeds] probably gives them a bit of breathing space ahead of the Dortmund game.

"I still expect them to get through, Chelsea. They dominated Dortmund in the first leg. They find themselves behind but I think they were by far the better team so I expect them to go through."

It remains to be seen if Potter can fire his men up for a huge clash that could ease some of the pressure on the whole club while also booking their place in the final eight of the competition.
