Jamie Carragher links up with Dua Lipa as star sends 'anthem' message to Liverpool fans

Pop star and Anfield favourite Dua Lipa has sent a message to Liverpool fans after linking up with Reds legend Jamie Carragher.

The Grammy award-winning singer's song 'One Kiss' is a staple of the matchday playlist, with tune often played before and after Liverpool games. Most recently, the hit was belted out after Jurgen Klopp 's team beat Villarreal in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final at Anfield on Wednesday.

Klopp and his players even joined in with a rendition following the Reds' FA Cup semi-final victory over Manchester City at Wembley earlier this month, having first forged a connection with Dua Lipa in 2018. Four years ago, when Liverpool faced Real Madrid for the Champions League final in Kyiv, the chart sensation performed the song live on the pitch before kick-off.

Although Real ran out 3-1 winners, the Anfield faithful added 'One Kiss' to their pantheon of tunes and fans have enjoyed it ever since. Now, Dua Lipa has strengthened her links to Liverpool, having performed in the city for an almost sold-out concert at the M&S Bank Arena on Friday night.

There, the 26-year-old met Reds icon Carragher backstage and posed for a photo with him alongside her father. Posting the snap on Twitter, Carragher wrote as his caption: "Possibilities," a reference to the lyrics. Her dad was holding a Liverpool home shirt which had 'Lipa 1' printed on the back.

But Dua Lipa didn't stop there, as during the gig, when performing 'One Kiss', she sent a message to Reds supporters on stage. The London-born artist labelled the song the club's 'unofficial anthem', with red and white balloons promptly released into the elated crowd midway through her hit-filled set.

Fans loved Carragher's tweet, with one replying: "Our Alisson long-term replacement sorted out. Thanks, FSG ". Another Kopite wrote: "Hope you had a word with her about our open top [bus parade] after the Champions League final, Carra."

Dua Lipa will be hoping to have given Klopp and co a boost ahead of their mouth-watering run-in, bidding to win an unprecedented quadruple this season. Liverpool travel to St James' Park to face Newcastle United on Saturday and the Reds boss - who signed a contract extension this week, keeping him at Anfield until 2026 - is keen to keep the special journey going.

"We feel like we are in the middle of something, not the end of something," Klopp declared in his pre-match news conference. "When you are in the middle, you want to reach the end and hopefully it will be a sunny place."
