Jamie Carragher has praised “the energy” of Tyler Adams after the United States frustrated England in the World Cup. Despite heading into the clash as heavy favourites, the Three Lions looked laborious and were held to a 0-0 draw in Qatar.
A win would have seen Gareth Southgate’s side qualify for the last 16 but, against the odds, a resilient USA side held firm. Leeds United midfielder Adams was one of the standout performers by thwarting England in midfield.
Named captain ahead of the tournament, Whites fans were the least surprised to see their player frustrate the Three Lions. Adams has transitioned to life at Elland Road seemingly since his summer switch, filling the void left by Kalvin Phillips’ move to Manchester City.

The £20million paid to RB Leipzig in July now appears a bargain, with the man he replaced watching on from the bench. Another Leeds talent, Brenden Aaronson, also made his second World Cup appearance as a substitute.
USA will take on Iran next in a highly-competitive fixture knowing a win for either team would see them progress to the knockout stages. After the draw with England, former Liverpool defender Carragher hailed the work rate of Adams and his midfield partner Weston McKennie.
The 44-year-old also honoured Chelsea outcast Christian Pulisic. He tweeted: “A draw was a fair result, the energy of Adams and (Weston) McKennie was excellent and (Christian) Pulisic showed his class at times. Harry Maguire was superb for England.”
