Former Liverpool captain Jamie Carragher provided a priceless moment at the end of Sky Sports' World Cup preview show this evening after a brilliant putdown on Gary Neville by host David Jones.
The Monday Night Football trio were joined by Jamie Redknapp and Karen Carney in a special World Cup preview show in which the pundits picked their England line-ups for the opening game against Qatar, discussed the Three Lions' prospects and picked their overall winners.
The Red and Blue halves of Merseyside both saw their players up for discussion, with Redknapp dropping Toffees goalkeeper Pickford to third choice behind Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale while Neville admitted he wouldn't trust Trent Alexander-Arnold at full-back in a knockout game while backing him to start at wing-back against Iran.
Despite debate across the board, it was host Jones who had the last laugh when delivering the final line. He said: "We look forward to that, thank you to Jamie Carragher, Jamie Redknapp, Gary Neville and Karen Carney. We'll see you on the other side, literally in some cases."
The line was a brutal jibe towards Neville, who has been criticised for taking a job with Qatari state-backed beIN Sports during the tournament, despite his vocal criticism of the countries human rights record.
And Carragher's reaction was, of course, priceless.
The former Reds defender looked ecstatic to see such a blow landed on his friendly foe Neville, who looked sheepish to say the least.
Tonight's dig was the second time in recent days that Neville has been mocked live on air. The former Manchester United right-back hosted BBC show Have I Got News For You last Friday and received a grilling from Comedian Ian Hislop, who asked Neville to justify his decision.
Neville replied: “My view always has been that you either highlight the issues and challenges in these countries, and speak about them, or you basically don’t say anything and stay back home. I’ve always said we should challenge.”
However, Hislop disagreed. “There’s another option," he told Neville. "You stay at home and highlight the abuses. You don’t have to go and take the Qatari's money.”
