Jamie Carragher, Gary Lineker and Ian Rush are among those who have paid tribute to legendary BBC commentator John Motson, who has sadly passed away aged 77.
Motson, known as Motty, was the voice of BBC's coverage of football for generations and commentated on 10 World Cups, European Championships and 29 FA Cup finals before retiring in 2018.
Taking to Twitter after the BBC announced his passing on Thursday, former Liverpool defender Carragher paid his respects to the Motson, tweeting: "RIP John Motson. An absolute legend of the game. So many of us grew up listening to this man describe the action & goals on MOTD & cup finals. Sad loss."

Former Reds captain and three-time European Cup winner Phil Thompson also paid homage to Motson, tweeting: "What a voice, what a man RIP John Motson."
Across Stanley Park tributes were also quick to flood in for the legendary broadcaster, with former Everton forwards Lineker and Kevin Campbell penning heartfelt messages.
"Deeply saddened to hear that John Motson has died," tweeted Match of the Day host Lineker, who he had worked alongside at the BBC. "A quite brilliant commentator and the voice of football in this country for generations. He’ll be very much missed. RIP Motty."
Campbell added: "Rest in Peace John “Motty” Motson an absolute legend and gentleman".
Messages of sorrow continued, with both Liverpool and Everton paying their respects for Motson, who commentated on the 1986 FA Cup final between the two sides.
"An iconic voice of the game. Rest in peace, John Motson," posted Liverpool on their official Twitter account.
Meanwhile, Everton tweeted: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of John Motson OBE, a broadcasting legend of our game whose iconic voice brought football to homes for more than 50 years. He will be sorely missed. RIP Motty."
Fellow commentator and former Radio City broadcaster Clive Tyldesley was also quick to pay his respects.
"As a teenager I just wanted to be John Motson," tweeted Tyldesley. "Nobody else. Terribly sad."
And Ian Rush, Liverpool's all-time record goalscorer, tweeted: "Saddened to learn that legendary commentator John Motson has passed away. His memorable commentary and unique voice inspired so many around the world. One of the most iconic and legend of the game will be dearly missed. Rest in peace “Motty”."
