James Wiseman joining Warriors for scrimmages on upcoming road trip

After a quick trip to Santa Cruz for an assignment with the Golden State Warriors’ G League affiliate during his extended rehab from a meniscus injury, James Wiseman was recalled to his NBA club.

Although there’s no set timetable for his return, Wiseman has advanced to the 5-on-5 scrimmaging stage of his rehab. As he prepares for his long-awaited return to the court, the former No. 2 overall pick in the NBA draft has gone through scrimmages in Santa Cruz and Golden State.

Wiseman will continue to practice and scrimmage with the Warriors during their upcoming road trip. After playing the Dallas Mavericks at Chase Center on Sunday night, the Warriors will open a four-game road swing starting on Tuesday. Wiseman will join the team on the road.

With a hold on the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference playoff race, the Warriors will likely continue to be patient with the 20-year-old big man. When Wiseman is ready to return to the court, he will provide much-needed depth in the Warriors frontcourt behind veteran Kevon Looney.

Before his rookie season was cut short due to his meniscus injury, Wiseman averaged 11.5 points on 51.9% shooting from the field with 5.8 rebounds in 39 games.
