James Winburn dead: Halloween's original Michael Myers actor dies as family pays tribute

Halloween actor and stunt man James Winburn has died aged 85.

The Hollywood star, best known for his iconic role as Michael Myers in the original 1978 film, is believed to have died over the weekend.

His cause of death is unknown.

James played Michael when Dr Loomis shot him six times, which caused him to tumble off a balcony in the hit movie.

He then returned as the terrifying Michael for the 1981 sequel Halloween II and put his daredevil skills to the test in a variety of Hollywood films.

The Night Stalker, Escape From New York, Tron and Colors were just a few of the movies he landed.

James was featured at Monopoly Events' For the Love of Horror convention just last month.

The company took to twitter to share their sadness over his passing: "We are extremely sad to learn of the passing of James Winburn, who joined us for @ftlohorror last month."

"'James was an absolute pleasure to work and shared some amazing stories with everyone over the weekend. Our sincere condolences go out to his family, friends and fans. #RIP."

Monster-Mania Con, which also runs horror conventions, shared their thoughts on the news.

The firm said on Facebook: "Sad to learn of the passing of James Winburn today."

James was unable to make their latest convention due to a "health issue".

"James was an absolute pleasure to work with and we had hoped to see him again for our show in Oaks, PA but sadly a health issue prevented that," they added.

"James was always appreciative of the Halloween fans and truly enjoyed meeting everyone. Our sincere condolences go out to his family, friends and fans."
