James Tavernier is reportedly open to a free transfer alternative after talks over a move to the MLS.

The former Rangers defender had been linked with a switch to the US to join Charlotte FC under Dean Smith.

It was reported the club were "very keen" to land the former Rangers captain after his exit from Ibrox in the summer.

Tavernier, 34, left Rangers at the end of the 2025/26 campaign after 565 matches for the Glasgow club.

He scored 144 goals and provided 148 assists between 2015 and 2026, winning the Scottish Championship, Challenge Cup, Scottish Premiership , Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup .

However, his next move could now be to Europe with two new clubs reportedly interested in his services this summer.

GiveMeSport journalist Ben Jacobs reports that Paris FC and Nice are both showing an interest in the right-back.

And it's thought Tavernier is open to the idea of a move to Ligue 1 this summer.
