James Tavernier on Rangers transfer murmurs from the Ibrox dressing room as skipper reveals news he is 'happy to hear'

Rangers captain James Tavernier has opened up on the potential influx of talent at Ibrox this month with speculation ramping up ahead of the Viaplay Cup semi-final.

Michael Beale will lead his side out at Hampden for the first time as Ibrox boss when they face off against Aberdeen to decide who will compete for the first piece of silverware on offer in Scotland, but behind the scenes the Londoner is ramping up his January transfer business. Norwich City star Todd Cantwell has been heavily linked with a move north of the border with English Championship sides also tracking the midfielder.

Everton star Tom Davies has also been touted with a move to the Scottish Premiership having fallen out of favour under Frank Lampard at Goodison Park. However, Tavernier insists he will be keeping his eyes on his TV to find out the latest arrivals to Ibrox as Beale looks to make his first signing.

Ahead of the clash with Jim Goodwin's men at the national stadium, the Rangers captain said: "I'd imagine they'd add more quality to the team. But it's one of those where you have to wait and see. I will probably find out on Sky Sports. But it's something that you're always happy to hear because it will always make you stronger."

The skipper was then quizzed on if he heard any chat in the Ibrox dressing room over signings. Tavernier responded: "You hear them. You tend to see it on Sky Sports in the morning and see what other clubs are doing. As a general fan of football, you keep an interest on players coming and going."
