James Tarkowski praises Dominic Calvert-Lewin work ethic in trying to get fit again for Everton

James Tarkowski believes Everton's recent performances mean they have nothing to fear when they take on Manchester United this weekend.

And the centre-back has praised his team-mate Dominic Calvert-Lewin for his work ethic as he battles to get himself back to full fitness after a number of injury problems.

The Blues head to Old Trafford on the back of a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park on Monday night. The point came courtesy of Michael Keane’s last-minute screamer.

Everton are unbeaten in their last four games, and face a United side that has struggled since lifting the Carabao Cup. And although Tarkowski admits his side knows they are in for a tough game, he sees no reason why they can pick up all three points.

He said: "We have just got to take it game by game. United are a top-notch side. Going to Old Trafford is never an easy task.

"But, where we are right now and the way we are doing, we are looking forward to the game. Hopefully, we can have three points on the board after it."

Before he added: "There is just a real togetherness between the team, and there is a real good squad mentality. So we will be ready to go again."

Speaking on Thursday afternoon, Blues boss Sean Dyche revealed that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is 'back on the grass' as he continues to build up his fitness. However, it looks like Saturday's game might come too soon for the England international.

"Whenever Dom is ready to get back in with us, we would love to have him on board again and playing week in and week out," Tarkowski said when asked about the forward.

"He’s had a difficult and tough time, to be fair to him, and I feel sorry for him because it has been difficult and he works ever so hard to get himself fit. Fingers crossed for him that he is back with us soon."
