James Nesbitt shouts out Newcastle Brown Ale at Coronation Concert as Quayside looks stunning

James Nesbitt had Geordies everywhere cheering at their TV screens on Sunday night, when he gave a shout out to Newcastle Brown Ale at the Coronation Concert.

After King Charles III's actual Coronation at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, millions more viewers tuned into BBC One on Sunday night to watch the star studded event from Windsor Castle. It had been well documented for a while that the likes of Take That, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie would be performing at the concert, but Cold Feet actor James Nesbitt's appearance came as more of a surprise.

As cities including Newcastle, Cardiff and Edinburgh got set to star in the Light Up the Nation segment of proceedings, James appeared on screen for a tribute which featured a number of nods to different parts of the country, and his brief reference to Newcastle included a line about the city's famous export.

Popular actor James, also the star of BBC drama The Missing, said: "Out for a pint of Newcy Brown by the Gateshead bridge, that harp of the Toon, the Tyne."

And both the bridge in question, the Millennium Bridge and the River Tyne itself, looked resplendent, when moments later, they were lit up, to get a slice of the Coronation Concert spotlight, soundtracked by Paloma Faith back in Windsor, as she performed her hit Sweet Lullaby.

While many viewers loved seeing Newcastle looking absolutely stunning on the TV, one took exception to James' tribute, taking to Twitter to write: "James Nesbitt is misinformed. There is no such thing as the Gateshead Bridge, he should have said e.g. Tyne Bridge. All the bridges are of Newcastle build."
