James Milner outlines Ben Doak Liverpool hope after 'unbelievable' Premier League milestone

James Milner came off the bench during Liverpool's win over Southampton at Anfield on Saturday afternoon to make his 600th appearance in the Premier League.

The Liverpool No.7 joined Frank Lampard (609), Ryan Giggs (632) and Gareth Barry (653) in making 600 appearances in the top flight when he came on for Harvey Elliott during the second half.

A Darwin Nunez double and a Roberto Firmino header sealed all three points for Jurgen Klopp's side at Anfield in what was their final game before the break for the World Cup.

The 17-year-old Ben Doak was named on the bench for the first time in the league after making his debut for the senior team in the win over Derby County in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night. And Milner, who made his Premier League debut at 16, hopes Doak has a career as long as himself.

"It's a big number isn't it? It's unbelievable. It's been a very long time," the 36-year-old told the BBC. "You see someone like Ben Doak come on the other night at a similar age and do well. Hopefully they can have a long career as I have.

"For our young guys it's an unbelievable place to be. You can learn so much. You won't go too far wrong watching these guys here and learning off them."
