James Gunn's Man of Tomorrow gets a major filming update as David Corenswet explains the conflict at the heart of the Superman sequel: "Try saving the world with your sworn enemy"

Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) staring down Superman (David Corenswet).

While Supergirl and Clayface were the focus of the DC Studios presentation at CinemaCon, there was a small nugget of Superman: Man of Tomorrow news to tide us over: Peter Safran, co-lead of the studio, revealed that "cameras roll next week on Man of Tomorrow" (per Fandango).

The follow-up to 2025's Superman brings back David Corenswet as the Man of Steel opposite Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor. The pair must team up in the movie to face the new threat of Braniac, played by Babylon Berlin star Lars Eidinger.

Hoult and Corenswet also appeared via video link with James Gunn to give a few teases about what to expect from their new foe. According to presenter Brandon Davis, Corenswet said that the movie would tackle what it's like "saving the world with your sworn enemy," as Hoult added it will feature a "new villain and an unlikely alliance." Gunn also reportedly shared how excited he is to start releasing details for the upcoming movie.

News is picking up on the sequel as it nears filming too as Andor star Adria Arjona has been cast as Maxima in the new film. In the comics, she's an alien queen who comes to Earth in search of a mate, setting her sights on Superman. However, it's not yet clear how her story will fold into the DC Studio's take on Man of Tomorrow.

The movie is currently due to hit theaters on July 9, 2027, following this year's Supergirl and Clayface releases. We've got a list of all the upcoming DC movies and TV shows you need to keep on your radar, as well as a breakdown of how to watch the DC movies in order.
