The game wasn’t without drama though as both teams saw a goal ruled out by VAR, while Dean Henderson denied West Ham captain Declan Rice from the penalty spot in the second half.
Another summer signing in Jesse Lingard provided the assist for Awoniyi’s goal, with his scuffed effort deflecting into the path of the Nigerian. Following the game, he took to social media to send a message to fans.
