Manchester United midfielder James Garner has said it will be difficult to top the campaign he had with Nottingham Forest last season.
The 21-year-old spent the 2021/22 season on loan at the City Ground, helping the club earn promotion back to the Premier League via the play-offs. Garner played the crucial ball into the box for the own goal in the final against Huddersfield back in May as Forest sealed their place in the top division after 23 years.
He played a total of 49 times in all competitions, but has now returned to Old Trafford to attempt to break into Erik ten Hag’s first team squad. However, Garner has been linked with another move away from United this summer, with Forest and fellow east midlands side Leicester City both reported to be interested.

While preparing for the new season with his parent club, the midfielder has looked back on his season under Steve Cooper, saying: "Last season was a top season for me. I think will be tough to top a season like that unless I win the Premier League."
He told the Manchester Evening News: "The manager really took to me, we won a lot of games. We didn’t have the best start but then the manager came in and we were on a flyer."
Ten Hag is said to be keen to have a look at Garner before making a decision on his future, with the youngster included in United's pre-season tour plans. He has missed their first two pre-season friendlies with a slight injury, but could be in line to play in the next outing, this time against Crystal Palace in Melbourne on Tuesday.
Should Forest complete a deal this summer, it would have to be on a permanent basis, with the Reds already having signed Dean Henderson on loan from United. Premier League rules prevent clubs having more than one loan signing from the same club.
