James, Fofana, Kante, Gallagher - Chelsea injury news before Manchester United showdown

Graham Potter will be without three long-term injury absentees when Chelsea welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon (5.30pm), but there is some brighter news for the Blues regarding Conor Gallagher and his recent illness.

Gallagher was forced off in midweek when Chelsea were held to a goalless draw vs Brentford - although he has trained in the build-up to the game. Potter confirmed Reece James, Wesley Fofana (both knee) and N'Golo Kante (hamstring) remain on the side-lines during his latest pre-match press conference.

However, the former Brighton manager is hopeful that Gallagher could recover in time to play some part against United, despite his premature withdrawal at Brentford. Here is the state of play with injuries at Chelsea with eyes locked on this impending Premier League showdown.

Wesley Fofana

Injury: Knee

Return date: TBC

What Potter has said: "Wesley's knee is not as bad as we had thought, so that's good. Of course, after the game you're concerned. It'll be a few weeks, I think, which is considerably better than it could be."

Conor Gallagher

Injury: n/a (illness)

Return date: October 22 vs Manchester United

What Potter has said: "We are still in the process of recovery. It's pretty much as we were with Brentford. Conor [Gallagher] trained [on Friday] so we will know how he is over the next 24 hours."

Reece James

Injury: Knee

Return date: TBC

What Potter has said: "He's in a brace for four weeks to stabilise the knee, then it's his rehab. That will take eight weeks we think. That's the latest here."

N'Golo Kante

Injury: Hamstring

Return date: TBC

What Potter has said: "I've not got anything to say that will make this better. It's worth me acknowledging that. They've [James and Kante] got to focus on what they control and that's with their rehab. Things will get better so you just have to move forward."
